Dual Sport Motorcycles, Your Key To Adventure
So you've had enough of playing on the tarmac. Too many times you've found a great back road on a trip only to find they haven't sealed the whole thing "But its a solid line on the map!!". Maybe you've decided that the places and things you want to see just aren't on sealed roads OR there are no roads to get there at all!! Congratulations, you're just about to put the Adventure in your riding. Just to be clear though, If you want to learn how to get your WR or KLX out of a turn faster, want to learn how to do Doubles or how to aim that Roost at your mates, your in the wrong place. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
If the things listed above are true for you then you are right to consider Adventure Riding and getting yourself a Dual Sport bike. There is a wealth of choice available in today's bike market and I'm not just talking about new bikes either. The sector we like to call Adventure Riding has been around since the early 80's when BMW first threw the R80G/S together. Regardless of your budget, there is something out there for everyone.
Like any change in direction, it comes with many questions. A-R-T would like to offer our experience to anyone with questions about what to choose for a bike, gear and set-up. After all, getting the basics wrong can be disappointing and we don't want people to start calling it Disaster Riding do we? Once the choice of mount is made, you best get some advice on where and how to ride the thing. That's where we can really help.
Riding a big 'Dualsport' off the tarmac is very satisfying. They can take you places that you wouldn't imagine going on a regular sport/touring bike. It takes some specific skills to do it safely but it's not rocket science. Anyone who has ridden a big Adventure bike like a Tiger or a GS will know that they are as good on the tarmac as any touring bike and in reality, just as good as any sport/tourer, particularly on secondary and rough road. So if you've cut your teeth on a street bike, you will find them familiar and welcoming on the road. It's when you get off the sealed surface that things can get a little tricky.
Our Adventure Riding Foundations course is perfect for the person making the transition to a Dualsport from a street bike. However, if you've found some comfort off the tarmac and found there's still some things you need to work on, then our Adventure Riding Extensions course might be for you. In the Extensions course you will learn to handle more extreme terrain, learn about suspension and bike setup, navigation, planning and logistics.
In either case, we would like to set you on your way to being this comfortable with a big Dualsport:
